Hope16, diocese's first clergy conference, a winner
400 clergy from the diocese spent three days at Liverpool Hope University last week for the first Diocesan Clergy Conference, Hope16. There were keynote talks, a debate on Science and Faith with Professors Brian Cox and David Wilkinson, entertainment and time for meeting others. Find out more

Two leading scientists with very different views on faith have debated science, the cosmos and human meaning in front of 400 clergy. Speaking at Hope16, Profs Brian Cox and David Wilkinson introduced concepts including multiple universes and inflationary cosmology. More here

New webpages were launched this week from the diocesan Education Team. They aim to provide a 'one stop shop' of guidance, information and advice for the wide range of stakeholders involved in our schools. Find out more here. Visit the new Education micro-site here

Diocese's first Director of Communications
The diocese has appointed Chris Tate as its first Director of Communications. Chris is currently a Chief Reporter at the Bradford Telegraph & Argus. Bishop Nick says, "Chris will bring a new perspective and a bank of journalistic experience which will help us focus well beyond the Church." More here.

Are you ready to celebrate your church growth?
Growth comes in all shapes and sizes. Celebrate Five are five big celebration events, one in each episcopal area, led by our bishops, to mark and encourage growth. The Halifax celebration has been postponed until the new year but four others begin this month, starting with Bradford.  Find out more here.

It was a huge achievement to reach the final of the national Church Times Cricket Cup, but in the end the clergy team from the Diocese of Leeds were defeated by 9 wickets in their match against a more experienced Diocese of London team. The team had travelled to Southgate in north London direct from the diocesan clergy conference in Liverpool. More here

17-19 York Place
From September 28, the diocese will be based at its new central office, 17-19 York Place, Leeds LS1 2EX. The four existing offices will be closed on Thu 22 and Fri 23 September to prepare for the move on Mon 26 and Tues 27. Staff will be fully occupied on those days so please if possible avoid contacting the office during that time. We look forward to welcoming you to the new offices. Read more here.

'Resourcing churches to engage with primary schools' is a conference for the diocese (Moyes Centre, Leeds), September 17 - helping churches to develop good relations with their local schools. Booking Form & Workshop details now available.

Photo competition for diocesan office 
Only two weeks left to enter our photo competition, the winners of which will feature in the new diocesan office in Leeds. There are three categories (including a children's category). Closing date: 30 September. More here.

Living & Praying the Prophetc Life
A reflective study day led by Revd Henriette Howarth, 10-3.30pm, 24 September at the Mirfield Centre. We are invited to hear the urgent call to pray and live prophetically in the world. More.

Follow Me 3
The Follow Me talks return to Wakefield this autumn. Bishop Tony Robinson, has announced five evening teaching sessions at Wakefield Cathedral with a variety of speakers to explore faith and discipleship. First up is Bishop John Pritchard on 29 September. More details here

Leeds DAC are hosting two training sessions, on Health and Safety and Risk Assessment for churchwardens and/or other parish officers next October 11 - one in Knaresborough, one in Pontefract. Find out more here 

Christian theologian & author, Brian McLaren, visits Harrogate on 15 October for 'The Great Spiritual Migration', a conference based on his latest book. Bishop Nick will also be taking part. Full details here - and an online video from Brian McLaren here

Bradford Cathedral with 'Thinking Faith' is organising a unique conference for Christians in business later this year. 'Business and the Kingdom' takes place on November 12 with a range of national and international speakers - more details

Areas AROUND THE AREAS

The Archbishop of York will be one of the guest speakers at 'Believe in Shipley' a 10 day Christian festival taking place 25 Sept - 2 October. Local resident, the Bishop of Bradford, will also be hosting a curry evening at the local Aagrah restaurant as part of the festival. Find out more

HUDDERSFIELD
Vicars and imams come together from across the Pennines for an inter-faith cricket match between Yorkshire and Lancashire at the Community of the Resurrection this Saturday (17th). More.

Four people from St Mary's Honley braved the shave, donated their hair to the Little Princess Trust and raised nearly £2000 for Macmillan. Read more of this inspiring story.

St Luke's Holbeck are collecting donations for Iraqi and Syrian refugees (for the winter months) from 18-25 Sept. More here.

Join a monthly, year-long Pilgrimage around Leeds, walking the Leeds Country Way, to pray for the city's people and the environment. Begins 21 Sept. More here.

Women and children refugee and asylum seekers have enjoyed a weekend in the Yorkshire Dales thanks to a group of organisations in Malham including St Michael the Archangel church. They took part in the Sunday morning service, sharing their stories. More here 

New canons - A former city banker and an ex-international businessman are amongst three members of the clergy who have been installed as canons at Ripon Cathedral this month. More here

Young people from the church in South Ossett spent the weekend learning how to survive as homeless or refugees. Challenges included building shelters from pallets and tarpaulin and working out how to cook a meal from an emergency food parcel with limited facilities. The Slum Suvivor weekend highlights a little of what it's like for those less fortunate at home and abroad. More.

Prayer across the diocese
The October - December edition of the Prayer Diary is now available on the website to pray for people and places across the diocese and world. Also Prayers for Overseas Links - Tanzania, Sudan & Erfurt.   

Twelve years ago, a Church Army evangelist started a new church, 'Sorted', with a small group of Bradford skateboarders. Since then it has grown and grown, and now Captain Andy Milne has written a book about the experience - The DNA of Pioneering Ministry - to be launched in Leeds on 8 November. More here

Places of Worship: security funding scheme
Home Office grants to provide protective security measures for places of worship in England & Wales. Deadline for bids: 5pm, 20 September. A second round in spring 2017. Details of qualifying criteria and how to bid can be found here.

The 2016 version of the Practice Guidance Safer Recruitment has been published which updates guidance to parishes on all matters relating to safer recruitment. Find it on the diocesan website safeguarding page here along with a range of relevant forms to help you with safer recruitment.
